Tibet stories
So here I am, contemplating how to post pictures given Chinese-only software and an internet connection sister to a turtle .. haha, well, my dears, my words will have to suffice for now.
It's been an unbelievable week since we arrived in Tibet - a week spent on the one road where dream and reality soften their edges, leaving room for a fascinating life, much too real to be imaginary. Reaching a small, retrieved hermitage over 4800 m above sea level, after a day of hiking through overpowering nature, rarefied air and breathtaking views ... being welcomed full heatedly by a monk, kind and curious, in jovial interest for how the "foreign" move and feel ... yak butter tea, with its strong smell and ever so strong taste, the blue-grey summits peering through the clouds .. the highest lake in the world, with its turquoise glitter reflecting snowy ranges .. a herd of peaceful yaks, with their big, wet eyes, grazing peacefully at altitudes that leave most humans breathless.
Little snippets, memories, dreams. I am fascinated by the pure beauty and grace of the Potala Palace, white giant watching over the city, red at dawn, golden in the summer sun, calm blue on a light, cloudy night. Farther away from the city, a universe of mystery and tradition opens its doors, with monasteries humming softly; the intoxicating smell of yak butter candles, monks praying in candle-lit air, their deep red gowns softened by the warm, dim glow.
Again, I leave, chasing for a dream. For the next 8 days I shall be on my way towards the Everest - I might not climb this time, but I'll surely mesure its strength with my eyes, feel its smell, promise to be back again. Indescribable feeling, to be living a dream, to be on the road to fulfilling it fully .... one step is all it takes.
Cheers!
